Where and How Are You Creative?
Creativity comes in all shapes and forms. So one size doesn’t always fit all.
When people think of creativity they think of drawing, painting, singing, etc.. When they can’t do these things they assume they aren’t creative. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Let’s talk about where we’re creative. In this study by GENIE, the AI talent agent for the creative industry, 1,000 creatives were surveyed on where they are the most creative. The top 8 places were:
On a walk
At home
In bed
In the shower
Socializing with friends
In the office
At the gym
On the toliet
People have noticed a post-pandemic shift in their creative eye as they head back into the office. They’re finding that working from home helps them be more creative as a person. You’re probably thinking - why is this brokerage sharing this information, aren’t they trying to lease office space? Well, if you’ve been here a while, you’ve learned we like to state the hard truths. We do brokerage differently.
Even though being in the office isn’t at the top of the list for creative brains, it is still in the top 8. How can we move that up on the list? Well it depends on the office culture and the space you put your employees in. Most of these employees who are choosing home over office are probably in a space where it’s impossible to be creative, i.e. no natural light, no space to collaborate, etc. You can fix this by providing them with a better office space. What does this look like? Well, one way to find out is to ask your employees. What are the best qualities of an office space? Some may say workstations, some may say closed concept offices, and some may say outdoor space. Once you gauge what your employees want, you can start your search for the next best office space. AND we can help with this!
Creativity can also come in the shape of thinking too! Divergent thinking is a great example. Divergent thinking is creating multiple ideas from one topic, as in exploring all of the different solutions to a problem. There are no right or wrong answers in this type of thinking. These typically involve brainstorming sessions, then funneling the best solutions. This type of thinking allows people to think outside the box. One place in particular that people can use this creativity style would be, you guessed it, in the office. To encourage this type of creative thinking, you can get an office with small conference rooms. When you give employees room to collaborate, they are able to come up with ground breaking ideas as a group.
Takeaway:
Finding how you are creative is the first step to kickstarting your creative brain, this in combination with the right space, you’re in for business. What contributes to a right space you ask? This can include many things such as outdoor space, tenant amenity centers, technology upgrades, collaborative spaces, lighting, etc. We wrote an article on why these are important for employees as they come back to work. We can’t help you with your creative journey, but we can help you with your next office space. We’d be happy to find the space that your employees can creatively think in.
