On the 19th anniversary of September 11th
Our Thoughts on the 19th Anniversary of September 11th
Below is a short letter we sent out to our clients and customers on September 11th, 2020:
There is a Joan Didion quote that always comes into our minds this day every year over the past 19 years, and it goes, “…quite simply, I was in love with New York. I do not mean ‘love’ in any colloquial way, I mean that I was in love with the city, the way you love the first person who ever touches you, and you never love anyone quite that way again.”
September 11th is a day we should never forget. It’s a day that represents New York City’s resilience, toughness, and core values. On September 12th, 2001, we woke up to a new New York City. A city where we reevaluated our priorities. Where we made sure to check in and hug our loved ones; we had each other’s backs. Yankees and Mets fans embraced. We put aside our differences to band together and rebuild better, stronger, and smarter.
We write this to you, 19 years later, so you don’t forget who New York City is. We overcome obstacles, rebound in the face of adversity, believe in ourselves and our neighbors, and know there is no place we would rather be than in New York City. The coming months will be tough, just like they were in the months following September 11th, but we know that together, we will make it through as we have in the past as a city.
We at Vicus Partners promise to be there for you in what might feel like your darkest times, because we’ve been there before, and we know the way out.
